Collaboration for project development

The Interprofessional Education and Resource Center (IERC) and AHC Simulation Center’s team of simulation professionals collaborate with faculty and health care providers to develop simulations that are customized to meet specific educational needs. Our staff members have unique professional experiences and training to complement our clients’ clinical and professional expertise. We can provide support at any stage of the educational process, from project conceptualization to evaluation. We specialize in meeting diverse educational needs by:

  • Helping clients clarify their goals and expectations
  • Identifying the right simulation modalities to meet client needs
  • Working within time and financial constraints to maximize learning outcomes
  • Providing design, training, and logistical support resulting in innovative and effective projects

Serving a broad clientele

The IERC and AHC Simulation Center serve clients across the University - from schools within the Academic Health Center to the School of Social Work and the Law School. We also partner with external clients to meet the needs of the local professional health care workforce. Learners come to us at the beginning of their educational careers, during their residencies, and as professionals for the purposes of continuing education. Projects developed for this diverse clientele include:

  • Objective structured clinical exams (OSCEs)
  • Physical exam and patient/client communication courses and workshops
  • Team training and development
  • Patient safety training
  • Licensure exams
  • Continuing education and remediation
  • Research on effectiveness of simulations for teaching and assessment
  • Simulation research to meet the needs of a rapidly changing healthcare marketplace

Scheduling your project

The IERC and AHC Simulation Center are dedicated exclusively to the development and implementation of simulation-based teaching and assessment experiences. The Centers operate as an Internal Service Organization, providing subsidized rates for University of Minnesota clients, and allowing external users access to all facilities and services through a fee-for-service model. We work with a wide variety of budgets, and partner with clients to maximize learning outcomes while minimizing costs. Get started by scheduling a consultation or project, and we will collaborate with you to develop and implement simulation strategies matched to your educational needs.
